PISTOIA-FIRENZE-CLASSICHE DEL NORD
I' m Andrea Tafi, native of Fucecchio, Tuscany, where I was born in 1966.
I approached the world of cycling in 1976, when a school mate invited me to ride with him. Only with great difficulty I managed to convince my parents to let me practice this sport and rode then the first races, not so much to win but above all for fun.
So I began to ride and turned professional cyclist at the end of 1988 until 2005.
In the period 1992-1993 I rode for the Carrera Jeans. In 1994 I signed for the Mapei Italian team where I remained for nine seasons riding alongside great champions like Franco Ballerini, Michele Bartoli, Johan Museeuw and Paolo Bettini. During this period I won twenty-two races including the Italian Championship in 1998 and six Classics: the Tour of Lombardy and Paris-Brussels in 1996, the Paris-Roubaix in 1999, the Paris-Tours in 2000 and the Tour of Flanders in 2002. My name is linked above all to the Paris-Roubaix in 1999, which, at present, I’m the last Italian rider to win it.
I rode as a pro for 18 years ending my career in 2005 with the Spanish team Saunier-Duval leaving the world of racing at the end of the 2005 Paris-Roubaix. After my retirement from professional cycling I have focused on a tourism activity related to cycling. With my wife Gloria, we run a country house called ‘Il Borghetto di Andrea Tafi’ located near Larciano, Lamporecchio (Pistoia) on the Tuscan hills. We host many cycling enthusiasts for whom I lead their rides in the Pistoia hills and in the plain of Florence. We also organize trips with groups of cyclists for the the Northern Campaign and the Belgian Classics .... whose roads I know so well.
Visit us at ‘Il Borghetto di Andrea Tafi’, I will put at your disposal all my experience to make you live an experience on your bike absolutely unforgettable.
